Abstract: Rodeo has grown exponentially since its popularization in the early 80s. Factors such as feeding, genetics, training regimen and animal welfare are the main concerns for owners and businessmen in the industry. In this context, there has been a need to use methods that increase the performance of these animals, with acupuncture being one of the methods already established and used routinely in human athletes, dogs and athletic horses. Acupuncture is an integrative medicine technique that uses needles at predetermined points on the body, helping with muscle relaxation and recovery, improving proprioception and controlling anxiety. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of acupuncture on rodeo bulls by means of the hematological profile evaluating fibrinogen and plasma lactate, and muscle biomarkers such as creatine kinase (CK) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), through a literature review, which presents a scarcity of information regarding the use of acupuncture on rodeo bulls and the physiological effects of acute high-intensity physical exercise on these animals considered athletes.
