• Abstract: This article will address the reflection of already consolidated theoretical studies, which discuss the implications between studies of gender and gender-based violence, taking as a basis violence against women in different contexts. The objective is to provide a historical overview of women's struggles, specifically the feminist movement, on the international and Brazilian scene, based on the three waves; in the second, a brief discussion on the concept of gender, conceptualizing gender as a constitutive element of social relations and power (SCOTT, 1995; CONNELL, 2015), and taking Saffiot's (2015) third topic as a theoretical reference to discuss violence of gender. Qualitative, documentary and bibliographic study. The investigation aims to understand the theoretical assumptions, Scott (1995), Connell (2015, 2016), Butler (2016), Saffioti (2015) among other scholars. These authors raise socio-historical aspects of society, marked by hierarchy, discrimination and normative practices present in power relations between genders.
