Abstract: Glanders is an infectious disease, which primarily affects horses, and can affect humans, and belongs to List B of the "Office International Des Épizzoties". The causative agent is the bacterium Burkholdelia mallei, which manifests itself acutely or chronically, characterized by purulent nasal discharge and the appearance of nodules and ulcerations in the respiratory tract and skin, which generally leads to death. Horses, mules and donkeys are the species normally affected, and carnivores can also become infected when ingesting contaminated meat, and in humans, the disease is fatal. The diagnosis of Glanders consists of the association of clinical-epidemiological, anatomical-histopathological aspects, bacterial isolation, inoculation in laboratory animals, immunoallergic reaction. In this sense, Glanders is perhaps the most serious threat to Brazilian equine farming and its notification subjects Brazil to a series of restrictions regarding the export of live animals or meat. Treatment is prohibited due to the possibility of treated animals becoming chronic carriers of the agent, thus becoming a source of infection for healthy animals. Thus, this study aimed to gather information about glanders in Brazil, through a bibliographical review, highlighting the main points regarding this subject, such as epidemiological, etiological, clinical aspects, glanders control and diagnosis and economic importance.
