Abstract: Amino acids are fundamental in the nutrition of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), mainly because of their influence on the body, such as: buffering muscle pH, detoxification of reactive carbonyl species, regulation of nutrient protein synthesis, insulin biosynthesis and secretion, plasma glucose uptake, protein synthesis, stimulation of hormone secretion, etc. In this sense, the main purpose of this scientific paper was to address, in a descriptive way, some of the main amino acids needed in the diet of C. macropomum, including highlighting their effects on the fish's organism, as well as their biological importance.
