Abstract: Ludwig's Angina is a facial cellulitis affecting the submandibular, sublingual, and submental spaces, predominantly of odontogenic origin. It poses an imminent risk of airway obstruction, leading to potentially fatal outcomes. This study aimed to enhance understanding of Ludwig's Angina, exploring its etiologies, progression, and applied treatments. Through a literature review, cases of Ludwig's Angina were analyzed in articles published in scientific journals over the past five years in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, sourced from ScienceDirect, PubMed/MEDLINE, and BVS databases. A total of 1447 articles were identified, and after applying exclusion and inclusion criteria, 13 articles were selected for this study. It was revealed that the primary cause of Ludwig's Angina is odontogenic infection, accounting for approximately 84%, with inadequate oral hygiene being a key predisposing factor. The review identified painful edema in the cervical region involving deep neck and bilateral submandibular spaces in 100% of cases, among other symptoms. Regarding treatment, securing the airway is prioritized, followed by combating the infection. In conclusion, a multidisciplinary approach is imperative, considering not only dental infections but also systemic and immunosuppressive factors.
