RETROSPECTIVA DE LA FORMACIÓN DEL INGENIERO FORESTAL ANTE LA CRISIS AMBIENTAL DEL PLANETA
Se contempla a los bosques desempeñando un rol fundamental de apoyo a la vida a través del sostenimiento de la salud del planeta y la calidad de la vida humana, contribuyendo a la solución de problemas globales: mitigación del cambio climático, pérdida de biodiversidad, deforestación, desertificación, control de desechos peligrosos y agotamiento de la capa de ozono, entre otros. Estos nuevos intereses o necesidades de la sociedad, han abierto para las organizaciones educativas que forman ingenieros forestales, nuevos retos de investigación y enseñanza para la creación de nuevos programas y/o modificar y actualizar sus planes de estudio con esta visión. Con base a este nuevo panorama se presentan resultados de un análisis retrospectivo de la situación de las instituciones que forman profesionistas forestales, para conocer la evolución del sistema educativo e identificar su potencial para enfrentar estos nuevos retos. El inicio de la enseñanza forestal se ubica en 1909, cuando Miguel Ángel de Quevedo, invitó a cinco dasónomos franceses a iniciar la carrera forestal en México. Entre 1928 y 1934, la carrera se impartió en la UNAM, en la Facultad de Ciencias, egresando 18 profesionales. A partir de 1933, la Escuela Nacional de Agricultura (ENA) en Chapingo, inicia la preparación de forestales. Durante el período 1933 – 1972, la ENA, fue la única institución que formó forestales. En ese lapso, el promedio de egresados fue de 11.04 por año. De 1973–1990 proliferaron los programas forestales. Hasta 2003 se reportaban diez instituciones, ofreciendo 16 programas académicos. Actualmente existen 35 instituciones a nivel superior que imparten la carrera forestal ubicadas en 15 estados del país

Abstract:
Forests are seen playing a fundamental role in supporting life by sustaining the health of the planet and the quality of human life, contributing to the solution of global problems: mitigation of climate change, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, desertification, control of hazardous waste and depletion of the ozone layer, among others. These new interests or needs of society have opened up new research and teaching challenges for educational organizations that train forestry engineers to create new programs and / or modify and update their study plans with this vision. Based on this new panorama, the results of a retrospective analysis of the situation of the institutions that train forestry professionals are presented, in order to know the evolution of the educational system and identify its potential to face these new challenges. The beginning of forestry education is located in 1909, when Miguel Ángel de Quevedo invited five French ranchers to start a forestry career in Mexico. Between 1928 and 1934, the career was taught at the UNAM, in the Faculty of Sciences, graduating 18 professionals. Starting in 1933, the National School of Agriculture (ENA) in Chapingo began preparing forestry students. During the period 1933 - 1972, the ENA was the only institution that trained foresters. During that period, the average number of graduates was 11.04 per year. From 1973–1990, forest programs proliferated. Until 2003, ten institutions were reported, offering 16 academic programs. Currently there are 35 higher-level institutions that teach forestry courses located in 15 states of the country.
