Abstract: The topic chosen for this work is the use of a mechanical device for chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) situations. This device is already used in several hospital emergencies and in pre-hospital care. Furthermore, it is also a recent acquisition in the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicles (VMER) and the choice of this theme was also based on the perspective of knowledge sharing, as it is extremely important to provide the best possible care to the people we assist in the pre-hospital setting, always supported by the most recent scientific evidence. Regarding the methodology used to carry out this Journal Club, we used research on the EBSCO platform with research in the databases: CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE Complete, Nursing&Allied Health Collection: Comprehensive, Cochrane Central Register of ControlledTrials, using as a Boolean phrase: mechanical chest compression AND prehospital and the date of publication between 2015 and 2019 was used as a search limiter. The selected article shows how the use of LUCAS compares with the performance of manual CPR. From your critical analysis, it is possible to conclude that mechanical chest compression devices provide CPR with compressions at a more consistent rate and depth than manual compressions.
