Abstract: : This article analyzes the representation of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship in 9th-grade history textbooks approved in the 2021 PNLD cycle. Based on a qualitative approach anchored in the field of History Didactics, two widely used textbook collections in Brazilian public schools were compared. Through comparative charts and thematic analysis, the study identified significant differences between the books regarding content depth, use of historical sources, and critical engagement with the period’s memory. The findings show that while one textbook fosters historical awareness through reflective activities and source analysis, the other maintains a more factual and limited narrative. This research highlights the importance of educational materials committed to democratic values, memory plurality, and human rights.
