Abstract: The diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder is generally understood as an individual milestone, focused on psychopathology and the symptoms experienced by the affected person. However, this narrow understanding overlooks the collateral effects experienced by the individual's closest support network: their family. This study aimed to analyze, through an integrative literature review, the emotional, behavioral, and relational repercussions of a depression diagnosis on family members, especially those who take on caregiving roles. The methodology consisted of a systematic search in the SciELO and PePSIC databases using the descriptors “depression” and “family relationships,” resulting in an initial set of 30 articles, of which only one met the established criteria. The analysis revealed a significant gap in the national literature, as well as the presence of emotional overload, psychological exhaustion, and neglect of self-care among family members. It is concluded that there is an urgent need for greater scientific and clinical attention to the impact of depression on the family, in order to include caregivers as active subjects in the therapeutic process.
