Abstract: This article reports the results of an action research project that investigated the effects of a junior scientific initiation program on stimulating interest in science and the academic performance of high school students. The premise is that early involvement in scientific research can boost academic performance, expand access to higher education, and foster careers in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The intervention was led by university students and faculty through an integrated set of strategies, including workshops, lectures, mentoring, and the promotion of junior scientific initiation grants. The central objective was to develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving skills, and an interest in scientific research among students. Preliminary results attest to the effectiveness of the program, reflected in the awarding of seven scientific initiation grants, the publication of four abstracts at the 2023 UNESP Scientific Initiation Congress, and the holding of a local symposium for paper presentations. It is concluded that the project demonstrates significant potential to captivate students, positively impacting their current and future academic trajectory.
