Abstract: Interpersonal crime is a phenomenon present in all societies and temporalities, in which it also manifests itself according to the feelings, norms, customs and values that each of these societies shares among the individuals belonging to them. However, these are values, feelings and customs that, although almost always under the yoke of the same legal and institutional rules, are assimilated and, above all, lived in a very different way, if not contrary to these rules, ordinarily conceived and imposed by the dominant classes. Here, we will analyze homicide and attempted homicide crimes committed by men and women from the working classes, sexually and emotionally involved in dating, marriage and similar relationships, seeking to understand – based on the problematization of the motivations for these crimes – how women and men from the working classes of Salvador assimilated the norms and rules of sexual and emotional behavior, in the context of gender relations, advocated by the so- called republican literate elites, who imagined themselves leading the process of modernization and civilization in Brazil, leading it to the much-desired Western modernity of the first decades of the 20th century.
