Abstract: In this work, molecular size (MS) based fractionation and multivariate analysis using Kohonen neural network (KNN) were used to identify the relationships between molecular weight and the distribution of dissolved ions in the dissolved organic matter of the Jacaré River located in Poço Redondo-SE. Two sampling were carried out (09/2018 and 03/2019) and in each campaign around 100L of surface water samples were collected for humic substance extraction (SHA) using the column adsorption chromatography method. MS was performed using ultrafiltration system with membrane sizes of 100, 10, 5, 3 and 1 kDa. And in each fraction carbon and NO 3 - , F - , Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , SO 4 2- e Cl - ions were determined by ion chromatography. The distribution of COD in % mass in order of abundance was described as: F1>F3>F2>F5>F4>F6 for the Dry period and F4>F2>F3>F1>>F5=F6 for the Rainy period (RP). In general, significant relationships between molecular weight and distribution of dissolved ions were detected and were effectively visualized by applying KNN to the data set, making clear the influence of seasonality and the strong correlation of ions with COD concentration and that in RP all ions showed higher lability being more available to participate in other reactions in the aquatic environment.
