RELAÇÃO EXISTENTE ENTRE AS CONDIÇÕES SOCIOECONÔMICAS DE UMA REGIÃO DO CERRADO MARANHENSE E OS IMPACTOS AMBIENTAIS OCORRENTES NO LOCAL
O presente estudo teve como
objetivo analisar a relação existente entre as
condições socioeconômicas de uma região
do Cerrado Maranhense e os impactos
ambientais ocorrentes na mesma, por meio de
dados do PIB e IDH, os quais são indicadores
socioeconômicos que baseiam-se em fatores
que envolvem o uso dos recursos naturais. Os
procedimentos metodológicos consistiram em
pesquisas bibliográficas e uso de ferramentas
geotecnológicas, para verificação da evolução
do uso e ocupação do solo. A pesquisa
evidenciou um aumento, regional, para o PIB
per capita, entre os anos de 1999 a 2014, o que
pode ser explicado pela expansão agrícola no
Cerrado Maranhense. A agropecuária, uma das
atividades mais impactantes ao meio ambiente,
apresentou a segunda maior contribuição para o
PIB. O IDH também apresentou aumento, entre
os anos de 1991 a 2010. Entretanto, contrárias
ao cenário socioeconômico estão as condições
ambientais; pois, a partir do aumento do PIB
e IDH, os impactos sobre a região tornaramse mais intensos, sendo a agropecuária uma
das principais causas desta intensificação. No
sul do Maranhão existem grandes projetos
agropecuários, os quais estão provocando
impactos como: perda de vegetação nativa,
contaminação de corpos hídricos, assoreamento
de rios, entre outros. Desta forma, o cenário
demonstra que as condições socioeconômicas
da região e os impactos ambientais no local
possuem uma relação direta; pois, à medida
que ocorre o aumento do PIB e IDH, os impactos
ambientais são intensificados, contribuindo,
assim, para a degradação ambiental do Cerrado
Maranhense.

Abstract:
The objective of this study
was to analyze the relationship between the socioeconomic conditions of a Cerrado Maranhense region and the environmental
impacts that occur in it, through GDP and HDI data, which are socioeconomic indicators
that are based on factors that involve the use of natural resources. The methodological
procedures consisted of bibliographical researches and use of geotechnological tools,
to verify the evolution of the use and occupation of the soil. The research evidenced a
regional increase in per capita GDP between 1999 and 2014, which can be explained
by the agricultural expansion in the Cerrado Maranhense. Agriculture, one of the most
impacting activities in the environment, presented the second largest contribution to GDP.
The HDI also increased, from 1991 to 2010. However, contrary to the socioeconomic
scenario are the environmental conditions; because of the increase in GDP and HDI,
the impacts on the region have become more intense, with agriculture being one of the
main causes of this intensification. In the south of Maranhão there are large agricultural
projects, which are causing impacts such as: loss of native vegetation, contamination
of water bodies, silting rivers, among others. In this way, the scenario demonstrates
that the socioeconomic conditions of the region and the environmental impacts in the
place have a direct relation; as the increase of GDP and HDI occurs, the environmental
impacts are intensified, contributing, therefore, to the environmental degradation of the
Cerrado Maranhense.
