RELAÇÃO ENTRE O COMPORTAMENTO SEXUAL E AS MEDIDAS TESTICULARES DE TOUROS DE CORTE
A monta natural é o principal manejo
reprodutivo utilizado nas propriedades de
criação de gado de corte. O estudo de critérios
de seleção de touros aptos à reprodução é
fundamental para a produtividade. O presente
trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a correlação
entre o comportamento sexual e as medidas
testiculares de touros de corte jovens. Foram
utilizados 91 animais, com idade média de 12
meses, criados em sistema extensivo. Foram
avaliadas as respostas comportamentais de
cada animal, durante dez minutos, na presença
de duas fêmeas em cio induzido, em um curral.
Cada atitude foi pontuada seguindo uma escala
de 0 a 10. As medidas de perímetro escrotal (PE)
e testiculares (comprimento, largura e altura)
foram verificadas com o auxílio de uma fita
métrica e de um paquímetro, respectivamente.
Os dados foram correlacionados pelo teste de
correlação de Pearson, a 5% de significância.
A pontuação média obtida na avaliação do
comportamento sexual foi de 3,42. Os valores
médios para as demais variáveis foram: PE
– 27,38 cm; comprimento do testículo direito
(TD) - 9,93 cm; largura TD - 5,10 cm; altura TD
- 5,25 cm; comprimento do testículo esquerdo
(TE) - 9,69 cm; largura TE - 5,03 cm e altura
TE - 4,97 cm. O comportamento sexual foi
muito fracamente ou fracamente relacionado
às dimensões da bolsa escrotal e testiculares.
Em conclusão, não se deve predizer a libido
de touros jovens apenas pela verificação das
medidas testiculares.

Abstract:
Natural mating is the preferred reproductive management used in beef
cattle farms. The study of criteria for the selection of the bulls able for reproduction
is essential for productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between
sexual behavior and testicular measurements of young bulls. A total of 91 animals,
with an average age of 12 months and raised in an extensive system were used. The
behavioral responses of each animal were evaluated for ten minutes in the presence of
two females in induced estrus in a corral. Each bull´s behavior was scored on a scale of
0 to 10. Scrotal perimeter (SP) and testicular measurements (length, width and height)
were checked with a tape measure and a caliper, respectively. Data were correlated by
the Pearson´s correlation test, at 5% of significance. The average score obtained in the
evaluation of sexual behavior was 3.42. The mean values for the other variables were:
SP - 27.38 cm; length of right testicle (RT) - 9.93 cm; width RT - 5.10 cm; height RT -
5.25 cm; length of left testicle (LT) - 9.69 cm; width LT - 5.03 cm and height LT - 4.97
cm. The influence on sexual behavior due to the size of the scrotal sac and testicles
was very weak or weak. In conclusion, the libido of young bulls should not be predicted
only by the verification of testicular measurements.
