Abstract: Introduction. Scoliosis is a multifunctional disorder that affects the musculoskeletal system, with the possibility of alterations in other organic systems, such as the cardiopulmonary and neurological systems. Physiotherapy plays a fundamental role in the pre- and post-operative period of these individuals. Objective. To analyze the relationship between pre- and post-operative physiotherapy and posture in juvenile idiopathic scoliosis in a reference hospital in Recife. Method. A quantitative, before-and-after study was conducted, whose sample consisted of children and/or adolescents, of both sexes, admitted to the pediatric trauma ward of the Otávio de Freitas hospital. They were included because they presented a clinical and complementary diagnosis of idiopathic scoliosis, with surgical indication, and excluded because they presented an active infection, cognitive deficit that did not allow them to respond to requested commands, or muscle weakness grades 4 or 5 on the Kendall scale. Results. A 13-year-old female, weighing 45 kg and measuring 1.63 m, underwent surgery on March 18 of that year, with osteotomy and arthrodesis in the thoracolumbar region, with a 55° Cobb angle. During the preoperative period, she complained of pain in the right shoulder and scapular region, which worsened when coughing or sneezing; mobility was preserved in the contralateral segment. In the postoperative period, she presented regression of pain complaints, with reduced mobility in the area of the surgical wound. The physiotherapy protocol was based on manual therapeutic resources and kinesiotherapy. Conclusion. Adherence to the protocol allowed the patient to reach functional milestones of sitting, standing, and walking within the estimated time frame, as well as allowing an early return to daily and social activities.
