Abstract: Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is defined as the retrograde passage of gastric contents into the esophagus, sometimes reaching the pharynx and mouth. The most common symptoms that suggest a feeding problem are difficulties in sucking and swallowing, apnea, repetitive coughing and/or choking, excessive irritability, changes in behavior during feeding, breastfeeding time longer than 30 to 40 minutes, food refusal and deficit of growth. The diagnosis is mainly based on clinical suspicion and physical examination in children and adolescents who present typical symptoms of GERD, in infants, whose symptoms are very non-specific and in children with atypical or extra digestive symptoms, the guideline recommends diagnostic investigation. Treatment is initially based on postural, dietary and conservative measures, and may progress as the investigation progresses and if treatment fails. This study demonstrated that medications such as prokinetics, antacids, domperidone, bromopride are not indicated for the treatment of reflux disease and that one of the possibilities would be investigation and exclusion of CMPA.
