Abstract: The objective of the study was to describe how expenditures in the health area occurred, in total and sub-function terms, for the ten largest municipalities in the state of Paraná, between the years 2017 to 2021, and to analyze the variations of these amounts spent in the period of covid pandemic. For that, a descriptive, applied, qualitative and quantitative research was carried out, with documental and ex-post-facto analysis. The data collected were from the ten largest municipalities in the state of Paraná, namely: Curitiba, Londrina, Maringá, Ponta Grossa, Cascavel, São José dos Pinhais, Foz do Iguaçu, Colombo, Guarapuava and Paranaguá. All the information gathered was obtained through the Portal Transparente website of each municipality and the Sincofi website. Regarding the total amounts spent, the municipalities that spent the most resources in the health area were the three largest municipalities analyzed, Curitiba, Londrina and Maringá, due to their population size. On the other hand, the three municipalities that spent the least resources on health were respectively: Colombo, Paranaguá and Guarapuava, also the smallest municipalities in the analysis. The results show that over the years, among the ten municipalities analyzed, seven of them presented amounts invested in health with an increasing and constant increase. Only three municipalities did not have this same behavior: Ponta Grossa, Colombo and Guarapuava. The findings reveal that, from 2020 to 2021, the municipalities with the greatest increase in the amount spent on health were Ponta Grossa and Curitiba, respectively. The only municipality that presented a drop in the amount invested in health, from 2020 to 2021, was Guarapuava.
