Abstract: This article aims to reflect on the situation of transgender people in Brazil, focusing on the rights achieved, social invisibility, and the challenges faced in the pursuit of full citizenship. This bibliographic and qualitative research analyzes the role of social movements, the construction of public policies, and the legal recognition of gender identity, especially regarding transsexual and travesti individuals. The study highlights that, despite legal advances such as the possibility of rectifying civil records and regulations concerning the imprisonment of transgender individuals, the rights of this population are still disregarded or neglected. Structural transphobia, violence, labor market exclusion, and institutional prejudice are factors that perpetuate the marginalization of trans people. In accordance with the 1988 Federal Constitution and the American Convention on Human Rights, this paper advocates for the strengthening of actions that promote dignity, equality, and social justice.
