Abstract: Abortion has been a recurring theme on academic, legal and legislative agendas. With this in mind, the aim of this article is to describe the relationship between the autonomy of the will and abortion, from a public health perspective. Abortion has emerged as a public health and human life issue, as a result of the high rates of maternal morbidity and mortality. As a result, questions have been raised about the autonomy of will and the effects of legal impositions regarding the criminalization of abortion, in which many women carry out the procedure in an unsafe manner, causing damage to their own lives and health, constituting a possible violation of the Federal Constitution. From an ethical point of view, women, like any other individual, have the right to their own bodies, so the inefficiency and lack of quality in health care cause deficits in women's reproductive health, family planning actions and decisions. Finally, the issue has been widely debated in recent times, with the collection of data and campaigns for the decriminalization of abortion, however, it is necessary to discuss it with the legislature in order to put an end to the debate.
