Abstract: This study addresses Youth and Adult Education (EJA) as an essential public policy for promoting social equity, with an emphasis on its implementation within spaces of deprivation of liberty. The objective is to discuss the principles, guidelines, and challenges of Youth and Adult Education in contexts of incarceration, focusing on its political, pedagogical, and social dimensions. Through a bibliographic and documentary review, the research examines the principles, guidelines, and challenges of providing education to individuals deprived of liberty, highlighting the role of EJA as a liberating and transformative pedagogical practice. Grounded in theoretical frameworks such as Paulo Freire (2002), Michel Foucault (2008), and Brazilian legal frameworks, the analysis underscores the importance of education in the prison system as a strategy for resocialization, identity reconstruction, and the reduction of criminal recidivism. Despite legal advancements and the implementation of specific programs, such as ENCCEJA PPL and PNLD, obstacles remain, including structural deficiencies, lack of resources, and the absence of continuous educational policies that are sensitive to the specificities of the prison context. The study concludes that the effective implementation of EJA within the prison system requires not only material investment but also an ethical, political, and pedagogical commitment to human dignity and social justice.
