Abstract: The negative impacts caused by aviation in the environment are severe and they are due to, mostly, landing, takeoff and taxi operations. The air transportation sector works at a global level and for that reason the damages and/or consequences in the natural world are an international responsibility as, for instance and above all, the greenhouse effect gas. Connected to all that, the constant attempt to reduce fuel consumption became, nowadays, one of the most challenging and relevant issues for the airlines, seeing that, besides the economic factor, it is closely attached to environmental problems. Therefore, not only the airlines but the air traffic services are adopting new technologies and procedures whose goal is to reduce fuel consumption. In this context, this paper aims to analyze whether the Reduced Runway Separation Minima concept’s (RRSM) application indeed results in the reduction of fuel consumption and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions or not.
