Abstract: This article seeks to promote a study regarding the closure of public rural schools in the state of Rio de Janeiro in recent years (namely, from 2020–2024), based on open data published on the official MEC/INEP platform. To this end, data referring to different administrative spheres (federal, state, and municipal public networks) were investigated, aiming to outline an overview of the articulations in defense of "Educação do Campo" (Rural Education) and to present a case study concerning the process of resistance and struggle related to the gradual termination of Elementary Education offerings at the Manoel Simões de Rezende Municipal School, located in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. The theoretical assumptions underlying this study are anchored in the works of Arroyo (2008, 2014), Caldart (2008), and Molina (2008). The adopted methodology includes bibliographic and netnographic research, as we present content analysis (Bardin, 1977) and discourse analysis (Mainguineau, 2008; 2011) related to posts on the official Instagram social network of the school unit in question during the month of December 2025.
