Abstract: In this work, we discuss the somnambulistic constitution of memories in Menino sem passado (1936-1948), by Silviano Santiago. In this sense, we understand that the memories of the “sleepwalking boy”, protagonist of the narrative, transit simultaneously through the real and the invented, being, therefore, a hybrid way of talking about himself and his childhood. Moreover, sleepwalking shows that Silviano's narrative is driven by otherness, since the narrator-character returns several times to his “obsession of wanting to be someone else”. This exercise of otherness allows the child from Formiga to wear different identities and rebuild their memories from the other and as if they were another.
