Abstract: This chapter addresses Quilombola Communities in Brazil, which were included for the first time in the Census conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), examining the complex situation of these ethnic-racial groups descended from enslaved individuals from a human rights perspective. However, the process of land regularization has been marked by slow progress and faces significant political and bureaucratic obstacles, exposing these communities to agrarian conflicts and human rights violations. The methodology employed includes literature review and document analysis, exploring current legislation, public policies, and official data released by IBGE. In addition to examining the data, the study aims to contextualize the challenges faced by Quilombola communities in land access and the guarantee of their fundamental rights, highlighting the existing gaps in the recognition and protection process for these historically marginalized communities.
