Abstract: Objective: to identify available recommendations on breastfeeding during the COVID-19 pandemic period in the scientific literature. Method: this is a literature review of the narrative type, the search for articles was carried out between March and April 2021, in the databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PUBMED) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval Sistem online (MEDLINE), through the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeSC): “Coronavirus Infections”, “Breastfeeding”, “Newborn”, and also from Medical Subject Heandings (MeSH): “Coronavirus Infections”, “Breast Feeding” and Infant Newborn, with the Boolean operator AND, in which 11 studies were found that met the objective. Results: the studies present divergent recommendations on breastfeeding during COVID-19, whether promoting skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding or the separation of mother and newborn, in addition, some studies point to the impacts that this separation can cause , other studies suggest the continuation of breastfeeding for mothers positive or suspected of having COVID-19, since the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh the risks of transmission of COVID-19, as long as personal protective equipment is used and hand hygiene is carried out. hands. Conclusion: considering the current situation in which we are living, it is necessary to spread knowledge to the community and health professionals to guide and prevent the contamination of COVID-19 between the mother-child binomial.
