Abstract: Pain is a subjectiveunpleasantexperience, especially in children in thePediatricIntensiveCare Unit. Pain management iscomplexand in addtiontopharmacologicaltreatment, non-pharmacological Technologies canbeused. Virtual Reality isoneofthem, which, through na immersiveanddistractingexperience, can interfere withthepatient’ssensationofpain, helpingtocontrol it.Thisstudyaimstoevaluatethe impacto ofusing Virtual Reality (VR) as na auxiliaryresource in non-pharmacologicalpaincontrol in a pediatric ICU environment. Therapywasinstituted for children over 6 yearsof age, withouthemodynamicinstability. Validatedpediatricscaleswereusedtoassesspain; thechildrenwereassessed prior totherapy. Games andscenarioswereintroducedaccordingtopatients’ preferencesandcouldbeimmersiveandactive, notexceedingthemaximumtherapy limitoof 15 minutes. 45 childrenwereincluded, 29 (64%) had no associatedpainand 16 (35%) had mil dor moderatepain. Average age 8 yearsandmedian 8,6 years.Aftertherapy, 12 children (75%) progressedto a pain-freecondition, 4 (25%) still had some pain, 3 ofwhichweremildand 1 wasmoderate. Amongthechildrenwho still hadpain, wefound a severelevelthat, afterapplying Virtual Reality, improvedtomild, whichmayberelateedtotheirdiagnosis. As na initialresult, weobserved positive results in its use, however, for a more robustresult, it isvalidto continue the approach in relationto diagnoses, in termsofthedurationofthe post- therapy analgésica effectandthe impacto n theneed for complementaryanalgesicmedication. Weconcludethat virtual reality, in additiontobeing a playful tool thatprovides a calmerandlighterenvironment for thechild, has na importante impacto onthemanagmentofassessed pai, andcanbe na allytopharmacologicaltherapies.
