Abstract: Virtual reality (VR) and clinical simulation have become essential tools in nursing education, as they allow for the safe and realistic recreation of clinical scenarios. These technologies strengthen technical skills, decision-making, and responsiveness to clinical situations without putting the patient at risk. Objective: To analyze the contribution of virtual reality and simulation to the teaching-learning process in nursing, highlighting their usefulness in advanced training. Methodology: A documentary and investigative methodology with narrative systematization was developed, supported by scientific literature from indexed journals and academic databases. In addition, a case study based on experience in a simulation laboratory in El Salvador was incorporated, where intravenous cannulation and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) were practiced at eight technological stations. Results/Discussion: The experience demonstrated that VR promotes meaningful learning, improves technical accuracy, and allows for real-time error correction. Students reported increased confidence, motivation, and autonomy, while the simulation facilitated the repetition of procedures and the development of essential clinical skills. Conclusion: Virtual reality represents an advanced and effective strategy for strengthening nursing competencies, improving practical preparation and the confidence of future professionals.
