Abstract: On February 14, 2022, the University Restaurants at Unicamp were reopened, marking the commencement of in-person classes for the first semester of 2022. The reopening, aligned with the guidelines of the "Plano São Paulo," involved significant changes in the meal distribution model, transitioning from packed meals to pre-prepared trays/dishes. Operational adjustments were implemented to ensure a safe reopening, in compliance with health standards. Space reconfiguration included the installation of acrylic barriers on tables, thorough sanitation, provision of hand sanitizer, and modifications to the cafeteria layout to establish a linear flow. Effective communication of guidelines, such as mask usage and time limitations in the dining areas, contributed to the successful resumption. The official reopening on March 14, 2022, witnessed the return of approximately 43,000 students to the campuses. To ensure safety, there was a substantial reduction in seating capacity with the installation of acrylic barriers. The RU offered 700 seats, accommodating up to 4,200 customers per meal, while the RS provided 275 seats, serving a maximum of 2,200 customers. Prior to the full reopening, some institutes had gradually resumed activities, aligning with the Unicamp Scientific Committee. Over six months, 595 meal requests were processed, facilitating the migration of applicants to the "Covid return" category and adjustments to ingredient orders. The successful return, after two years of limited operation, resulted from the team's efforts and the meticulous implementation of preventive measures, demonstrating a commitment to the safety and health of the academic community.
