QUILOMBOS NA FAZENDA DE SANTA CRUZ, SÉCULO XIX

A história fundiária da Fazenda de Santa Cruz, no Rio de Janeiro, não foi pautada nos ditames da função social da terra. Organizada pelos padres jesuítas e mantida pela Coroa portuguesa, e pelo Império brasileiro, onde as Ordenações Filipinas garantiu a enfiteuse perpétua de suas terras, delegando aos foreiros o peso do foro. E não foi diferente com as terras ocupadas por quilombos, que nos aforamentos do século XIX, pagavam seus devidos foros em réis e galinhas à Superintendência.

  • Abstract: The land tenure history of the Santa Cruz Farm in Rio de Janeiro was not guided by the dictates of the land's social function. It was organized by Jesuit priests and maintained by the Portuguese Crown and the Brazilian Empire, where the Philippine Ordinances guaranteed perpetual emphyteusis over its lands, delegating the burden of the land rent to the tenant farmers. The same was true for the lands occupied by quilombos, which, in the 19th-century land tenures, paid their due land rent in réis and galinhas to the Superintendency.
