Abstract: This article aims to critically reflect on the effects of coloniality in shaping gender and sexuality norms, from a decolonial and situated perspective. Using a qualitative and autobiographical approach, the authors draw on their own experiences as gay men born in the interior of Bahia to engage with theorists such as María Lugones, Rita Segato, and Aníbal Quijano. The article analyzes how the modern/colonial gender system operates in conjunction with patriarchal, heteronormative, and Eurocentric logics, shaping subjectivities and reproducing structures of subalternization. The findings indicate that understanding gender as a colonial legacy helps denaturalize normative categories and opens space for dissident epistemologies. It concludes that the articulation between queer theory and decolonial thought offers promising paths for constructing more inclusive and plural political and epistemological alternatives.
