Abstract: Introduction: The quality of colonoscopy depends on an adequate intestinal preparation. In Brazil, the predominantly used solution for this preparation is Mannitol. Objective: to evaluate the quality of intestinal preparation in patients undergoing a colonoscopy at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí. Methodology: This is a sectional study conducted between the months of October 2019 and March 2020 at HU-UFPI. The study population consisted of an ambulatory colonoscopy at this reference center and a sample of 241 participants. The type of sampling was non-probabilistic, with selection of participants for convenience, attributing the sampling error of 5%, 95% confidence level and 5% significance, using p = 0.50. Results: Most participants were female, from Teresina, with an average age of 55 years old and daily evacuations. The main indication for the examination was screening for colorectal neoplasia and the main side effect was nausea. Most participants evaluated the preparation steps as easy, followed the recommended guidelines and had a preparation considered as good, but there was a need to interrupt 14.1% of the exams. The average removal time from the device was 8 minutes and 30 seconds. For a screening population, the adenoma detection rate was 21.8% and the cecal intubation rate was 92.4%. Conclusion: The rate of detection of adenoma and cecal intubation were lower than the recommended values, possibly due to the need to interrupt some factors due to due preparation.
