Abstract: Increased longevity has fostered the need to guarantee dignity and quality of life for the elderly. Day Care Centers are a social response developed to achieve this goal, however, during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the measures decreed in Portugal was the suspension of its face-to-face activity. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the quality of life of the elderly after their suspension, considering gender issues. The research, which is quantitative in nature, involves 100 people aged 65 and over in Day Care Centers in the northern region of Portugal who answered a questionnaire. The sample consisted mainly of women and widows. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis of the data was carried out using the SPSS program. The analysis showed that men have a higher level of quality of life and that difficulties in paying expenses and occupying time during the period of suspension/closure of Day Care Centers are negatively related to quality of life. The results seem to point to the importance of the Centers in promoting quality of life, as well as the need to consider gender differences in quality of life at older ages.
