Abstract: Introduction: The Brazilian Classification of Occupations defines caregivers as individuals who help with daily activities and ensure the well-being of the person being cared for. The act of caring can influence quality of life (QOL), in positive and/or negative aspects. Objectives: to evaluate the QOL of caregivers, functional capacity of patients and observe whether there is a correlation. Methods: Cross-sectional study that evaluated 70 volunteers, 35 of whom were neurological patients and their respective caregivers. The SF-36 was used to assess caregivers' QoL and the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) for patients' functionality. Results: The majority of participants (82.9%) were women, aged between 23 and 71 years. All caregivers were related and lived with the patient. The most prevalent diagnoses within that sample were cases of stroke and myelomeningocele. In the QoL assessment, the domains of social aspects, functional capacity, physical aspects, mental health and pain obtained the highest scores. In assessing the patients' functional capacity, 6 (17.1%) showed modified dependence with assistance covering up to 50% of the tasks (with scores ranging from 19 to 60), while 9 (25.7%) exhibited modified dependence with assistance comprising up to 25% of tasks (scores from 61 to 103). Furthermore, 20 (57.2%) patients demonstrated complete independence (scores from 104 to 126). Conclusion: Caregivers demonstrate low QOL in vitality, emotional aspects and general health status, but have good functional capacity. Patients have modified or complete independence. There is no correlation between the quality of life of caregivers and the functional dependence of patients
