Abstract: This chapter describes the proposal and development of a proof of concept (PoC) for a data acquisition system focused on detecting faults and monitoring the operational condition of benchtop combustion engines. The main objective was to develop and validate a telemetry system using non-invasive sensors and open-source technology, based on a review of the state of the art. The proposed system collects data on vibration, sound, temperature, and CO2 levels to identify ignition and combustion faults, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the maritime industry. Using an ESP32 microcontroller with Wi-Fi connectivity, various compatible sensors were integrated to create a functional prototype. Preliminary tests indicate the feasibility of the PoC for data acquisition and the creation of datasets for research and development purposes.
