Abstract: Although Internet of Things approaches applied to the context of sports and physical exercise represent a promising way to organize training programs for users, most mobile applications (apps) are developed in a disorganized and poorly structured manner, resulting in low-quality products with little adherence to the target audience's needs. Therefore, the aim of this chapter was to propose a structured protocol for the development of apps focused on sports and physical exercise, based on user experience, integrating the expertise of sports professionals and information technology specialists. The protocol is organized into four phases. In the first phase, an exploratory descriptive study is conducted to deepen knowledge in the literature on the topic, examine the usage rate of apps related to sports and physical exercise, and identify the main gaps and demands of the target audience. The data collection is done through a semi-structured interview and an electronic questionnaire created in Google Forms. In the second phase, the application (app) content is defined based on the most requested demands from the questionnaire respondents. The third phase focuses on the app design and implementation, where the system architecture, interfaces, and methods for communication and data exchange are defined. In the fourth and final phase, the app undergoes a usability evaluation process, aimed at identifying and fixing flaws. Afterward, the final version of the app is registered. This protocol provides essential guidelines for the development of more effective apps that are tailored to the context of sports and physical exercise, contributing to the improvement of the quality and usability of these products.
