Abstract: With a high prevalence worldwide, especially in females and with advancing age, urinary incontinence is the complaint of involuntary loss of urine. It can be evaluated as a symptom, a sign or a condition that has negative repercussions in various areas of the woman’s life. Several pathophysiological mechanisms are involved in the continence process to function properly and, when there is a change in one of these mechanisms, incontinence may develop. Based on its pathophysiology and symptomatology, non-neurogenic UI is classified into four main types: effort, urgency, mixed and overflow. Therefore, it is essential a detailed anamnesis, clinical physical examination and complementary examinations directed at the Primary Health Care, in order that interventions are performed as soon as possible, either by conservative treatment, either by pharmacological or surgical treatment. Thus, the present work aims to guide the medical professional of Primary Health Care in the management and treatment of incontinent patients, as well as their indications, therapeutic interventions and when there is need and priority in the referral to the specialized service. Therefore, a care protocol will be developed focused on guiding general practitioners in the care of women with urinary incontinence of non-neurogenic cause providing improvement of quality of life and resolutiveness in Primary Health Care.
