Abstract: This article aims to analyze the Protégé 5.6.9 application, an open-source ontology editor developed by the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research. The main new features of this version are investigated in comparison to previous versions, with emphasis on extended Java compatibility (versions 11 to 25), interface improvements, ontology sorting by display name, the new option 'Display from ontology roots', and XML catalog bug fixes. The methodology adopted is a bibliographic review, consulting sources such as the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), Brazilian Computing Society (SBC) publications, Editora Atenas articles, Revista FT, and official project documentation on GitHub. The results demonstrate that Protégé has consolidated itself as the main ontological modeling tool in the world, with more than 68,000 projects hosted on WebProtégé, and that version 5.6.9 represents a milestone of technological maturity.
