Abstract: The aim of this study was to carry out scientific research into Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture (IMTA) and to propose a model for the development of integrated shrimp and oyster farming in the state of Maranhão. A systematic literature review on IMTA was carried out on the Web of Science database. The review was carried out from December 2023 to January 2024. In the data analysis, China is the country that has published the most on IMTA. Oysters such as Crassostrea gigas are promising candidates for use as extractive species in IMTA systems in several countries, but in Brazil there are records of native oysters being used in this multi-trophic system. Average values for temperature (28.56°C), dissolved oxygen (5.86 g/L), salinity (21.31 g/L), pH (8.15) and ammonia-nitrogen (0.19 mg/L) were recorded. Therefore, the proposed IMTA model is a project for environmental sustainability, to be developed in the municipality of Humberto de Campos-MA, and involves integrating the cultivation of shrimp and oysters. The IMTA system will be based on an oyster cultivation system on floating pillows. This study concludes that Crassostrea gasar and Penaeus vannamei are the most suitable species to propose a model for the development of integrated shrimp and oyster farming in the state of Maranhão.
