Abstract: The textile industry searches for sustainable technologies that meet consumer needs. Viscose fiber, although valued on the market, is not sustainable due to the use of toxic compounds. The direct dissolution of cellulose in recyclable solvents appears as an alternative to replace the viscose process and obtain fibers with interesting properties for the production of textile articles. This study describes the production processes of viscose, lyocell/NMMO and lyocell/ionic liquids, as well as the differences in fiber properties. The objective of this study is to present more sustainable alternatives in the production of textile fibers, considering the search for an ecologically responsible industry.
