Ao narrar e analisar o processo

revolucionário francês do final do século XVIII,

na obra intitulada História Universal de 1919,

o escritor inglês Herbert George Wells (1866-

1946), popularmente conhecido como H. G.

Wells, um dos autores mais importantes da

literatura “científica” do seu tempo, afirma que

a ruína das instituições e da estrutura política e

social vigentes teria trazido grandes dificuldades

para a ordem emergente. Questões essenciais

não haviam sido devidamente pensadas: como

seriam encaradas a propriedade, a moeda e as

relações internacionais? Considerando o tempo

de reflexão do autor, essa comunicação propõe

explorar algumas possibilidades interpretativas

a respeito de tais conceitos que Wells considera

fundamentais para a edificação da ideia de uma

“nova ordem mundial”.

Abstract:
In his most important non-fictional

work entitled The outline of History: being a

plain history of life and mankind, published

first in 1919, the english writer Herbert George

Wells (1866-1946), popularly known as H. G.

Wells, one of the most important authors of the

“scientific” literature of his time, analyses the

French Revolution occurred at the end of the

eighteenth century. According to Wells, the fall

of the current institutions as well as the political

and social structure had brought great difficulties

to the rising order. Essential questions had not

been carefully thought: how property, currency

and international relations should have been

handled? Considering the historical time of

the author, this article explores some possible

interpretations related to those concepts which

were considered by Wells as crucial for the

elaboration of the “new world order” idea.
