Abstract: A water scarcity is one of the major issues of our time; its impacts on production systems are noticeable, and this situation has been discussed at a global level. One influencer in the issue of water demand is the production system; large-scale intensive production poses serious challenges, such as the treatment of animal waste, which can represent a direct risk to the environment and health. Therefore, the aim of this study was to propose the dimensioning of an efficient system for treating industrial effluents from pig farming, integrating physical/chemical treatment processes and biogas production from methane (CH4). The goal is to meet legal standards for effluent discharge into water bodies and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed treatment was subdivided into five unit processes: screening, aerated grit chamber, Parshall flume, UASB reactor, and nitrification/denitrification ponds. The treatments showed efficiency in reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) by 69% and 61.3%, respectively, as well as reducing Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus (TP) by 90% and 75%, respectively. This indicates that the chosen unit processes were effective in removing these nutrients, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed treatment sequence.
