Projetos de extensão e a conexão com as escolas públicas: uma proposta de educação ambiental

• Abstract: Extension activities in universities are extremely important, as they are transdisciplinary, scientific and educational processes. The aim of this work was to share knowledge between the Agroveterinary Science Center of the State University of Santa Catarina and the students of the Ondina Neves Bleyer Municipal School of Basic Education, located in the municipality of Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. For this, a technical visit was carried out by the students of the seventh year of elementary school to the forest seedling nursery and to the entomology, pedology and environmental survey and analysis laboratories. The students became familiar with native and exotic forest species and had contact with soil monoliths, gaining an understanding of the importance of soil formation and diversity. They also observed and interacted with invertebrate animals and experienced laboratory research procedures in the area of ​​environmental biochemistry. The 55 students were dazzled with the practices carried out, they didn’t show any negative point and they reported that this experience was enriching for their learning process, as it provided practical contact with the diversity of forest species and soils, deepening their theoretical learning and exceeding their expectations. The preference for activities developed during the technical visit was diversified. Therefore, it was possible to observe the importance of practical activities and interaction between the university and the community, because through a university it fulfills its social role, projecting the construction of knowledge from all parts.
