PROGRAMA ESCOLA VERDE: PROMOVENDO A EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL EM INSTITUIÇÕES DE ENSINO DA REDE PÚBLICA

• Abstract: Environmental Education (EE) can be developed and experienced in different ways, especially in educational institutions, where the environment is conducive to learning, knowledge and behavior change. The aim of this work is to present a selection of the actions promoted by the Green School Program team at the IFSertãoPE campus in Petrolina, with regard to environmental education and the construction of green spaces (afforestation and vegetable gardens), mobilizing the internal and external community and promoting awareness and conservation of the environment in a pedagogical way through collective actions and in the certainty that we will have a better planet for future generations with a better quality of life. To date, approximately 15 schools have been served with talks and recreational activities, involving more than 2,600 young people and children, while 100 seedlings of trees typical of the caatinga have been planted and two vegetable gardens are in full operation, providing fresh vegetables for school meals, academic activities and herbs for teas. The main result of this extension work is the involvement of the entire school community with the proposed actions and the possibility of providing these people with direct contact with nature.
