Abstract: Forest harvesting is an essential stage in wood production, directly influencing the profitability and sustainability of the activity. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting production and harvesting costs in native and planted forests, highlighting the influence of mechanization, environmental conditions, and management practices. In planted forests, such as eucalyptus and pine, mechanization enables greater operational efficiency, reducing costs and environmental impacts. In contrast, selective logging in native forests requires more manual intervention, increasing costs and logistical challenges. Harvesting costs are influenced by factors such as terrain, forest density, employed technology, and transportation distances. The adoption of sustainable management techniques and the use of economic models to optimize operations can reduce waste and improve economic feasibility. Additionally, the application of Net Present Value (NPV) aids in analyzing the profitability and sustainability of investments, providing a solid foundation for strategic decision-making in the forestry sector.
