PRODUÇÃO E COMERCIALIZAÇÃO DO FEIJÃO-FAVA (Phaseolus lunatus L.) NO PIAUÍ: UMA CULTURA DA AGRICULTURA FAMILIAR
A região Nordeste é a grande produtora de feijão-fava (Phaseolus lunatus L.) no Brasil, destacando-se os estados da Paraíba, Ceará, Piauí e Pernambuco. Objetivou-se, pois, conhecer os caminhos percorridos pelo feijão-fava do varejista ao produtor e identificar os agentes participantes para os municípios piauienses maiores produtores (IBGE, 2017) em Tanque do Piauí, Várzea Grande, Barra d’Alcântara, Palmeiras e Teresina, Piauí. Utilizaram-se as informações da PAM/IBGE referentes à área colhida, quantidade produzida e rendimento médio para uma série histórica de 1997 a 2016, e para o período quinquenal de 2012 a 2016. Quanto aos dados primários foram aplicados questionários nos mercados públicos e feiras livres dos municípios pesquisados, através da plataforma digital KoBoCollect©. A análise da série histórica demonstrou uma redução de 60% na área colhida para o Piauí. No mesmo período, o município de Tanque do Piauí apresentou crescimento de 69% na produção. Esta é realizada em pequenas áreas, com ferramentas manuais. O feijão-fava comercializado em Teresina tem origem em municípios piauienses e em outros estados da região Nordeste, tais como Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão e Pernambuco. Conclui-se que a presença do intermediário é o principal fator que condiciona o alto preço do produto no varejo.

Abstract:
The Northeast region is the major producer of lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.) in Brazil, with the states of Paraíba, Ceará, Piauí and Pernambuco standing out. The objective was, therefore, to know the paths taken by lima beans from the retailer to the producer and to identify the participating agents for the major Piauí municipalities (IBGE, 2017) of Tanque do Piauí, Várzea Grande, Barra d'Alcântara, Palmeiras and Teresina Piauí. PAM / IBGE information on the harvested area, quantity produced, and average yield was used for a historical series from 1997 to 2016, and for the five-year period from 2012 to 2016. As for the primary data, questionnaires were applied in public markets and open markets in the cities surveyed, through the digital platform KoBoCollect©. The analysis of the historical series showed a 60% reduction in the area harvested for Piauí. In the same period, the municipality of Tanque do Piauí grew by 69% in production. This is done in small areas with hand tools. The fava beans commercialized in Teresina originated in municipalities in Piauí and in other states in the Northeast region, such as Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão and Pernambuco. It is concluded that the presence of the intermediary is the main factor that determines the high price of the product in retail.
