Abstract: addressing historical and legislative aspects. Since early times, the condition of women has been shaped by a social structure that restricted them to subordinate roles, limiting their access to fundamental rights. Despite achievements such as the right to vote and entry into the workforce, challenges remain, notably wage discrimination and gender-based violence, which reflect a disregard for women's dignity. The article examines how the 1988 Constitution and the Maria da Penha Law were important legislative milestones, reinforcing gender equality and protection against violence. The creation of Special Women’s Prosecutor’s Offices within the Legislative Branch, such as in Balneário Camboriú, is highlighted as an innovative and necessary institutional response to oversee the implementation of public policies focused on women. These offices not only monitor programs and complaints but also collaborate with national and international organizations to promote women’s rights and ensure the effective enforcement of protective laws.
