Abstract: The study aims to identify publications in the scientific literature that describe nursing practices for the prevention of PICC-related BSI in the ICU. This is an integrative literature review. The inclusion criteria were original studies, made available in full, that addressed nursing practices and care for the prevention of BSI in patients admitted to an adult ICU using PICC. The exclusion criteria were: Other integrative/systematic reviews, documents characterized as letters to the editor or reflection articles. Articles published in the last 5 years were selected; the languages Portuguese, Spanish and English, with full texts available on the CAPES journal portal and adult patient population. The search for primary studies was carried out on June 24, 2024 in the following databases: Web of Science, Scopus, Pubmed, LILACS and BDENF, IBECS and MEDLINE via BVS. From the search, 11 scientific articles were surveyed, highlighting the strategies and interventions applied, as well as the main risk factors inherent to nursing care with PICC. Regarding the main strategies and interventions identified, the following are observed: (a) application of bundles and clinical protocols for insertion, maintenance and removal of PICC devices, with emphasis on the GAVeCeLT bundle; (b) application of questionnaires and forms to assess the knowledge of nursing professionals about the care provided in assisting patients with PICC; (c) implementation of specialized vascular access teams to perform care with the PICC device; and (d) use of scores and scoring scales to assess the quality of procedures involving the PICC device. Furthermore, risk factors were identified as being of greater relevance for PICC-related bloodstream infection, among which are: septic shock; renal failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
