Abstract: Traumatic dental injuries and their sequelae affect the individual as a whole and go beyond the biological scope, involving function, aesthetics of the tooth, and therefore the social life of those who suffer them are impaired. Due to the proximity of the deciduous teeth to the germs of the permanent successors, trauma can also cause alterations in the permanent dentition, depending on the type of trauma and the stage of formation. The objective of the study was to describe traumatic injuries in the primary dentition, highlighting the prevalence, types of trauma and their sequelae in the affected tooth and its permanent successor. The methodology addressed in this research is bibliographical based on a narrative literature review, with a qualitative approach and descriptive objective. This review showed that trauma in the primary dentition can occur in dental tissue, ranging from enamel crack, enamel fracture, enamel and dentin fracture without pulp exposure, enamel and dentin fracture with pulp exposure, crown-radicular fracture to root fracture and when it affects the periodontal tissues, concussion, subluxation, extrusion, lateral dislocation, intrusion and avulsion can be listed. It was possible to conclude that trauma has a higher prevalence in preschool age, with a prevalence variation between 11 and 35% of trauma in the primary dentition, and coronary discoloration is the most common post-trauma sequel and can be transient or accompany the deciduous tooth until exfoliation; among the sequelae described in the permanent successor, the most frequent were dark spots on the crown, changes in structure, eruption disorders, lacerations on the crown with root and malformation.
