Abstract: : Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is understood as a condition resulting from the interaction of genetic and environmental factors, characterized by persistent and progressively intensified symptoms. Objective: To investigate the level of anxiety among university students in health-related courses. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive, and quantitative study was conducted with 161 students (64% female) enrolled in Physical Education, Nursing, and Physiotherapy programs at a private institution in the municipality of Caucaia. Anxiety levels were assessed using the GAD-7 questionnaire. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, and associations were tested using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05 in SPSS 21.0. Results: Significant differences were found between genders, with females showing a higher prevalence of GAD (36.9% vs. 17.2%; p = 0.001). Students aged 23–24 years also demonstrated higher frequency of the disorder (56.3%; p = 0.011). Additionally, physical activity practice was associated with lower prevalence of GAD (26.4% vs. 37.3%; p = 0.008), suggesting potential protective effects. Conclusion: The findings highlight the need for institutional interventions within the academic environment to support and monitor the mental health of university students.
