Abstract: Hemoparasitoses are diseases of high prevalence in the medical clinic of small animals. They are transmitted by arthropod vectors, especially the brown tick of the dog Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato. Among the hemoparasites most commonly transmitted by this tick are: Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma platys, Babesia spp. and Hepatozoon kennels. Due to its clinical importance, the present study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of hemoparasites in domiciled dogs treated at the veterinary hospital Jerônimo Dix-Huit Rosado, UFERSA, Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, in the year 2016. For this, the results of complete blood count of 2720 animals, which contained hematozoa screening for blood smears. The hemoparasites found in the investigated population were: Anaplasma platys (29.9%), Ehrlichia canis (3.05%), Hepatozoon canis (2.90%) and Babesia spp. (0.55%). Co-infections were also observed, mainly by A. platys and H. canis (3.35%). The results of this work demonstrate the importance of the use of laboratory techniques to aid in the diagnosis of the main hemoparasites of dogs, so that treatment, prevention and control can be successfully performed.
